Free reference tool

Knitting Needle Size Chart is a free informational reference. It compares published millimetre diameters with nominal US, legacy UK/Canadian, and named Japanese manufacturer-profile labels.

Needle numbers vary

Number systems are not universal physical standards. Manufacturers, product lines, materials, and historical publications may use different labels for the same nominal number. Prefer the millimetre marking on your needle or packaging, follow the pattern gauge, and make a gauge swatch with the yarn and stitch pattern you will use.

No guaranteed project result

Needle diameter alone cannot guarantee gauge, fabric, fit, drape, or finished dimensions. Personal tension, yarn, fibre, needle material, stitch pattern, washing, and blocking all matter. Nearest-size suggestions are starting points, not equivalent sizes or promises.

Acceptable use

You may use the tool and its generated reference output for lawful personal or commercial making. Do not disrupt the service, bypass security controls, overload the site with abusive automated requests, or misrepresent a sourced nominal conversion as a guaranteed standard.

Sources and intellectual property

Needle diameters and public conversion facts are not claimed as proprietary. The site's original code, wording, layout, and artwork may be protected to the extent permitted by applicable law. Third-party source names and links remain the property of their respective owners.

Availability and liability

The site may be corrected, changed, interrupted, or withdrawn. To the extent permitted by applicable law, it is provided without warranties and the operator is not responsible for losses caused by relying on a nominal conversion without checking the physical millimetre size and gauge. Nothing here excludes consumer rights that cannot lawfully be waived.

Contact and governing law
